Autobiography
Marija Zlata Bo¾nar graduated in 1990
at the Ljubljana University, Faculty of Engineering and
Computing. In the same year she joined the Section for
Physics of low and medium energies at the Institute Jozef
Stefan. She had been working for the Laboratory of monitoring
systems, which in 1993 remodeled into independent company
AMES d.o.o. She still works at the mentioned company.
Her work included cooperation and project management
related to building complex monitoring systems for environmental
monitoring (meteorology and air pollution). Within those
projects, she was developing representation programes
and interfaces for guiding the monitors to monitor air
pollution.
Her research work in all these years was also related
to air pollution. In 1992 she received Master’s Degree
and in 1997 she finished her Doctor’s degree in developing
a method for predicting gas concentrations in the air,
modeled on the basis of neural networks. The group introduced
this method to the world for the first time. Besides,
the group also deals with numerical modeling of air polluting.
This year she is taking part at the project INES (transfer
of the program equipment for automatic monitoring station
into Linux environment).
Subject
Environmental Monitoring station with the operating
system Linux
User's experiment "Environmental monitoring in the urban
environment", which is a part of the INES project, will
introduce a way to automatically follow environmental
parameters in Slovenia with the use of monitoring network
elements, built with open operating systems. As an example
of a "good usage" it will mediate such exemplary usage
not only to interested companies, local and governmental
institutions, but also directly to citizens, who are
more and more interested in environmental issues. Taking
into account the fact that environmental problems know
no bounds, the knowledge to be gained will also be very
useful in other EU countries.
EIS - Environmental Information System is a complex
of one or more automatic monitoring stations. As an example
of the use of open source code, an installed automatic
monitoring station, based on operating system Linux will
be presented. Program equipment of the monitoring station
is built on modules and ensures automatic gathering,
examining, saving and reviewing data of environmental
parameters. All the program modules of the monitoring
station are made with the use of developing tool Qt.
Qt. Developing environment enables development of unified
program code, which can be translated and used at various
operating systems. Communication among program modules
is based on TCP/IP communicational protocol. Saving and
gathering of saved data is running via ODBC (Open DataBase
Connectivity) program interface.
