Autobiography
Robert Korošec has several years of experience
in the field of relation databases. Since 1999 he's been
working in the company Oracle Software as a technical counsellor
for the Oracle database. Before that he was dealing with
administration of UNIX Operating systems and Oracle DBA
administration
Subject
Oracle and Linux - technical and business relationship
Oracle ported its database to Linux platform already
in 1998 and therefore confirmed Linux is the operating
system, suitable also for the business critical applications.
At present, Linux is mature operating system, suitable
for various business functions, such as workstations,
application server and database server. The growth of
Linux is a consequence of a relatively cheap mechanical
platform and a family of 32-byte Intel and Intel compatible
processors, where Linux took over the position of primary
Unix operating system. Oracle's many years of experiences
with various Unix operating systems resulted in installing
the components that are very important for the functioning
of databases into Linux kernel. This was done together
with the company RedHat and UnitedLinux group. These
components are above all connected with the better support
for IO operations, support of clusters and overcoming
the obstacles in the field of memory management as a
consequence of 32 bit processor. The presentation will
include a good praxis of setting the Oracle database
into Linux system and linkage of servers into clusters
with the use of Oracle Real Application Cluster technology.
