Electronic money transactions are one of the first reasons for the spreading
of e-business. It is interesting, since in order to realise it, it was necessary
to solve two issues about doing business through Internet. First issue is about
data transmission and client and server components, which at the same time demands
data security. Just because of the security, e-banking is a pioneer considering
the use of new technology of encryption and authentication. As such it is directing
courses of development also in other areas of Internet technologies usage. It
is necessary to mention that the use of web technologies in Slovenia is not behind,
if compared to developed countries. On the contrary, it even exceeds them in
some areas.
The pioneer role at developing e-business in Slovenia
belongs to the >Agencija za plačilni promet< (Monetary
operations Agency) of that time. Its major role had been
it deterimined file standards for data exchange, by which
it enabled their business partners some basic electronic
services, such as balance insight, turnover review and
receiving account statements. The communication itself
went through e-mail and PGP system was used for the coding.
In Slovenia we have always managed to substitute simple
and relatively good things with 'better' and this is
what happened with money transmissions. This domain was
turned over to business banks, which had to offer their
business partners at least the services established by
the Agency.
Some banks offered their business partners some new
services and adjusted the process of money transmissions
to the companies while others retained the former Agency's
services. Unfortunately banks still see money transactions
software from the point of view of the payments only
and majority of them are not ready to add new elements,
which would reduce and simplify the work on the side
of their customers. This way, the banks mostly offer
their business partners only their operations review.
Each bank is providing the security for itself, since
the legislator (government and Bank of Slovenia) did
not follow the development of e-business with up-to-date
regulations. The result is we have more than twenty banks
in Slovenia, each with more or less individual solutions.
The circumstances for the progress are therefore very
reduced. We all sit in our own gardens while the customers
are deprived. What all banks have in common are their
warnings on how expensive e-banking is and none of them
haven't reduced the expenses of 'classical' operations
so far. On the other hand, some banks report that while
their customers are using e-banking, the bank is not
deprived of having less marble, brass or mahogany interior.
If you decide to buy a new car, it is understood you
will sell the old one, since you don't need both. This
can't be said for introducing e-banking. There are costs,
connected with initiation but what the business organisations
do not foresee is the reduction of costs in other areas.
Company ZRCALO d.o.o. has been trying to ensure universality
and compatibility with our own software versions. EPP
software supports different technologies of authorisation,
since the customers (depending on a bank) can use PGP
technologies, one-time passwords and digital signatures
for the authorisation. We offer our business partners
a possibility to use web and installation varieties and
for the integration into internal information systems
we use common standards, such as ZBS. Detailed description
of EPP software can be found on www.zrcalo.si
Next step represents a possibility of business operations
for legal persons with a bit shortened version, based
on open source business systems. Besides, for the users
of EPP software, we have prepared a mobile version -
EPPMobile.
Mobile version is meant for users who wish to regularly
review their accounts. EPPMobile also offers integration
with already existing software varieties EPP3. Most necessary
services include detailed account review and payment
orders authorisation. Guidelines for mobile banking were
introduced already by the EPP3 web version. Now, payment
orders authorisation through EPPMobile has brought a
fundamental improvement of business operations for legal
persons, since the authorisation is done independently
of user's location and equipment available at the time.
Mobile telephone became irreplaceable to successful business
operations for legal persons.
According to a development of mobile phones and possibility
of data transmission so far it hasn't been possible to
provide really qualitative and users friendly support
for banking operations. Solutions, such as SMS and WAP
interfaces had proved to be awkward and users unfriendly.
Therefore, EPPMobile is based on latest technologies
at disposal in new generation telephones, such as mobile
phones Nokia series 60. Big advantage is data transmission
through GPRS technology.
Payment order authorisation, that
enables its final signature, need to be emphasised. In
case the payment order has already been partly signed
with one of the EPP3 varieties, EPPMobile enables to
sign your payment order independently of the location
and with your final signature the process of payment
is initiated. Unfortunately the existing software at
the moment enables only authorisation with the use one-time
password generators, but this will soon change according
to trends in operating systems development for mobile phones.
Besides, EPPMobile also enables detailed account review
and detailed review of current account turnovers, which
can be very important for legal persons and their business
operations. |
